“Independence” Arrives at Fortescue – $500 Striper Tag Bounty!

If you’ve read the feature story in the November edition of The Fisherman or online at TheFisherman.com (Oops, They Did It Again), you know all about Cora and Rona, the first two of three jumbo stripers fitted with MiniPSAT tracking devices in the 2020 Northeast Striped Bass Study with Gray FishTag Research. On Tuesday, exactly four months after deployment of the third satellite tag on a striper named Independence off Montauk, NY on July 3, the Argos satellite picked up a signal just a few hundred yards off Fortescue Beach along the Delaware Bayshore in South Jersey. Could a slug of jumbo stripers out of Montauk arrived in Delaware Bay like the old days of Veteran’s Day trophy action? Has Independence arrived with a few of her big sisters? Perhaps it’s time to soak chunks at Tussey’s or drag eels through The Rips? Better yet, a walk along the bayshore beaches and sedges this week may yield great rewards, as a $500 bounty is being offered to whomever finds this incredible message in a bottle that’s tracked this 46-inch striper during her 200-plus mile journey from the East End of Long Island to the southern shores of New Jersey. This and the latest fishing forecast for a beautiful weekend ahead in our weekly video fishing forecast from The Fisherman Magazine.
