Striper fishing continued to bent rods for anglers towards the western end of the island before the windy conditions hit on Wednesday. Some of the bigger fish landed and released were up to 38 inches and reports indicated that most methods were working for them. Boaters had success in up to 50 feet of water while casters from the shore got in their fill as well in the western neck of the woods. Togging season is still going on. Once the water settles Montauk should produce again. A 17-pound monster was caught from a western South Shore wreck as well last week. Porgies, large sea bass and cod made up some of the other catches along the South Shore and out in Montauk. It was additionally a big regulatory week for stripers with meetings taking place that will dictate the direction of the 2025 regulations. A big ASMFC meeting is going to take place on the 16th. The meeting responds to the results of the 2024 Stock Assessment Update, which indicates the resource remains overfished but is not experiencing overfishing.
