SURF STRIPERS TO 47 POUNDS – SUPERB MONTAUK JIGGING CONTINUES
Montauk continued to provide a great jig bite for stripers and bluefish, and it seems that the jumbo porgies joined the party as well. Despite the slower fluking, a 12-plus pounder hit the deck of the Montauk Star last week, which could be a sign of good things to come. South Shore bay fluking is still steady, and for the surfcasters, it seems like a body of bigger stripers moved into the area because word of a 47-pounder hit the reports over the weekend, with several other quality fish making their way in also. The North Shore’s ongoing porgy bite didn’t slow down, and stripers to 50 inches were caught in the various rips from west to east. The Gut also showed excellent signs of life with endless blues and bass of all sizes.
