With all of the windy days during the past week, surf fishermen led the way once again along the entire South Shore with reports of quality fish being caught from the sand beaches up to 45 pounds. Both after-dark and daylight fishing were very productive. Sand eels are still the main forage for these surf bass, so using slender-profiled lures have been the way to go. Tog season is now officially open on both the North and South Shores, with some good reports despite the windy conditions. This is what we call “Nook and Cranny” togging since it involves probing the back harbors and sheltered waters for where these “bullies” might be hiding. Get those jigs and rigs ready because the weekend looks primo for getting on the best of the tog grounds and running the South Shore for those stripers feeding on sand eel pods.
