New Jersey Video Fishing Forecast – December 23, 2021

A Christmas Forecast For New Jersey & Delaware Bay

With Christmas coming Saturday, we’re also just a week out from the end of the 2021 season. That’s important to remember for several reasons – first and foremost, black sea bass and winter flounder will both come to a close as of December 31, so if you’re looking to load up on biscuits and blackbacks now is the time. Also shutting down as of January 1 is the back bay striper fishery in the Garden State. Our reports this week all along the Jersey Coast are that plenty of striped bass are still to be had out back in the estuaries and salty rivers, with spearing one of the predominant baits right now. Out front along the open beaches it’s okay to fish for stripers year-round, and while our sand eel striper bite has been slow to materialize for surfcasters, we’re still getting solid boat reports from Sandy Hook down to waters off Cape May and Delaware Bay. Best bet in the days ahead and into 2022 will be tautog fishing with head boats continuing to sail east in search of jumbo blackfish. From all of us at The Fisherman Magazine, have a very, Merry Christmas!
