Bass Under Birds Usher In A New Year of Striper Action

The Holy Innocents Day Blitz of 2021? Sure, why not; especially as striped bass stormed the beaches in the days after Christmas with veritable blitz conditions under diving birds and amidst acres of bunker in the Ocean County wash. Birds are the word for double digit catches this week as the intro clip to this week’s video forecast shows from December 28th, though folks working over marks off the beaches from Sandy Hook to Cape May are still scoring big at the Jersey Shore as folks from Delaware steam up to enjoy the action as well. In fact one of our hardcore reports off Brigantine calls it ““the best striped bass fishing I’ve ever seen in my life.” In this week’s report we look at the COLREGS Demarcation line to figure out exactly where that bay vs. ocean line rests in time for the closure of back bay striper season in the Garden State on Friday; though folks who are finding a robust striper bite in back might also find a few surprise tautog right now along the canal bulkheads and jetties as well! Our weekly freshwater report with George the Pocono Outdoors Guy, a midweek look at the NOAA marine weather forecast for the New Year’s weekend, plus details on getting your 2022 license and registration in time for the first beach blitzes of 2022!
