Between Storms: Porgy Pounding & Double-Digit Tog
The final weekend of January is screaming out like a banshee, with temperatures in the teens on Thursday followed by a winter stormy watch from Friday into Saturday night. According to the latest weather alert for January 27th, we can expect snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches in the coastal counties of New Jersey and Sussex County in Delaware, with winds gusting to 45 mph. In between our recent weather fits comes word of some jumbo porgies and tautog to 15 pounds out of Manasquan and Shark River inlets, with white perch being targeted in the rivers and creeks of South Jersey and Delaware as spotlighted in the February edition of The Fisherman Magazine. A spotlight on Rutgers fish class and a potentially “bowl-bound” RU alum with a pretty fishy background himself, plus our weekly look at the Poconos and other daytripping recommendations from the Javits Center in NYC on out to pond-hopping the Cape. Let the countdown begin, just 33 more days before New Jersey’s back bay striper season kickoff – glide into Seaside on Saturday and Sunday to gear up!
