NJ/DE Bay Region Fishing Forecast – April 6, 2023

Expect April’s “Fish Moon” To Trigger More Action

The Farmers’ Almanac first began publishing native-American names for full moons in the early 20th Century, with the Pink Moon of April corresponding to the early spring blooms of creeping phlox. The Pink Moon is also known as the Egg Moon, though coastal tribes also referred to it as the Fish Moon as shad and stripers began their upriver spawns. In our weekly reports at TheFisherman.com we highlight report catch and release fishing on the Raritan and Delaware from the past week with trophy class stripers, but you can expect more of that now that the full moon of April has passed putting more striped bass on the move (up rivers to spawn and arriving daily along the front beaches). Tautog reopens for the month of April in New Jersey, and the trout season kickoff here on Saturday means it’s a wide-open freshwater feature in the tristate region at this point. The 2023 black sea bass and porgy regulations are finally made official by NJDEP, and three more dead dolphins at the Jersey Shore since our last video fishing forecast as members of Congress seek state and federal response.
