Breaking News – Ørsted Scraps NJ Wind Plans

The big news this week is the Halloween night announcement by Ørsted that they’re ceasing development off the Ocean Wind One and Ocean Wind Two sites off the Jersey Shore. New Jersey’s governor Phil Murphy calls this decision “outrageous” and says it “calls into question the company’s credibility and competence,” while longtime industrial offshore wind backer and environmentalist Jeff Tittel says “These projects have been mishandled from the beginning by Ørsted,” adding that the industrial offshore developers from Denmark ” didn’t listen to the public and did not understand our needs or politics.” Suffice to say, fishermen who’ve been shut out of the industrial offshore wind discussion to this point are happy to see these “true believers” speaking from another side of their mouths and recognizing what the rest of the coastal community had already known. Plus, the striper run is set to move into a new phase of excitement, with black sea bass, porgies and tautog rounding out the November menu.
