NJ/DE Tautog, Perch, Sales and “Hole” Other Wintry Options
There are a handful of Jersey Shore head boats still sailing into the dead of winter with tautog, some jumbo porgies, cod, pollock and even a weakfish on the list of targeted species. White perch out back in the creeks and estuaries has been tiding over our tidal angling community, but as of this morning we are just 26 days away from the back bay striper season reopening in New Jersey; hello spring run! A few Jersey Shore fishing flea markets and sales events on February 5 and 6, though even the saltiest of anglers are heading N/NW in search of hardwater – and by all accounts the ice fishing action in the tristate region has been solid (pardon the pun) in recent days. Hutch has more details this week on that big “stripper” on the cover of this month’s edition of The Fisherman, and he proves definitively that going face first into the snow is by far the most effective presentation of proper “snow angel” technique (Southern Regional and Rutgers alum headed for L.A. to play in the Super Bowl!)
