The Thanksgiving Massacre – Blitz Alerts Have Casters on Standby
The tale of the Thanksgiving Massacre of 2016 will be forever told around family dinner tables; an epic 10-hour striped bass blitz along the Central Jersey beaches as striped bass pinned bunker in tight along the beach over a stretch of more than a dozen miles. With many of the conditions in 2021 quite similar (water temps, forecast winds and the presence of both bass and bunker) to those that occurred five years ago on Thanksgiving, many are hopeful that a few “massacre” moments are relived again this holiday week. And from the looks of things in the 48-second clip of nothing but bass on bunker in tight along the beach in Monmouth County from this past Saturday, the Thanksgiving Massacre of 2021 is a very strong possibility. In this week’s early weekend report for the Thanksgiving holiday, we look at bass blitzing on bunker, jumbo blues which have shown up in time to celebrate the fall run, and run down the for-hire action with tautog, black sea bass and a few cod. Be sure to pick up the December edition of The Fisherman out this week for our annual Holiday Gift Guide and new details on the Northeast Striped Bass Study.
