Twenty-eight, twenty-seven, there’s no use squabbling over a day or two to start the month of February, the bottom line is that we’re in the home stretch now towards spring! Some folks plan on pounding the perch this weekend, more tautog reports coming in from local ports, and plenty of solid freshwater options in the open waters from the Jersey Shore out to the Poconos. We have “unofficial” official word on this year’s fluke season in the Garden State in advance of the next big meeting in March, plus some solid “YOY” recruitment numbers out of the Hudson River in 2022 which hopefully bodes well for striped bass stocks and the anglers gearing up at the flea markets this weekend. Finally this week, yet another humpback whale washes ashore dead which prompts a dozen Jersey Shore mayors to appeal to Washington DC officials for an investigation and additional scientific research; and what’s the problem with requesting more research into industrialized wind anyway?
