Counting today there are just 7 days left of summer flounder season in New Jersey, with no more fluking around after Wednesday, September 25. The song remains the same at this point, with inshore reefs and snags the best bets, when weather permits. Of course Mother Nature isn’t being too hospitable this week; this current spate of northeasterlies is quite similar to this very week back in 1982, when the late Al McReynolds plugged up that longstanding world record striper of 78-1/2 pounds during the height of the Jersey Shore mullet run, in a raging nor’easter. We lead off with that record catch during this the anniversary week, Jenni talks up mullet in Open Boat, and it would appear the fall bait schools have captured some predatory interest off our local beaches. While waiting a few northwest winds after this heave, George has the regional freshwater rundown amidst a smattering of salty striper reports. And we wrap up this week’s video fishing forecast with a look at upcoming events and a brief segment on some gear modifications you can make this fall to up your striper conservation game.
