Long Island, Metro NY - East End Fishing Reports

Over at Double D Charters, Captain Dan reported very good striped bass fishing with plenty of bluefish mixed in. Sea bass and porgies are becoming more abundant each day, while fluking remains on the slower side.

From the Ebb Tide, they reported a mixed but productive New Moon bass fishery. Fish were scattered around the lighthouse and catches varied from angler to angler, but switching over to live eels produced larger bass. Their half-day jigging trip featured steady action on bluefish, jumbo porgies, sea bass and even a slot-sized striped bass. Overall, Montauk continues to offer one of the most diverse mixed-bag fisheries on the coast right now.

Captain Keith from the Fin Chaser reported a strong week of mixed-bag fishing. Early in the week, anglers loaded up on sea bass and ling before switching gears and finding striped bass and cocktail bluefish on jigs. Later trips saw excellent ling fishing, quality sea bass catches and even some striped bass action during afternoon trips. Sunday's outing found the ling bite slowing, but anglers quickly adjusted and put together limits of quality sea bass. Captain John from Fishemlite Charters reported excellent striped bass fishing both in front of Montauk Point and around Block Island. Many of the larger fish are topping the 40-pound mark, with his premium bucktails accounting for the bulk of the action.

Captain Savio from Fishooker Charters reported phenomenal striped bass fishing in front of Montauk Point. He recently hosted Fisherman contributor Mark Sedotti for a trip that produced excellent action. Most of the fish are falling for bucktails and other artificial presentations.

Over at Marlena's Yacht Club, they let me know the striper fishing remains excellent in front of the Point with anglers scoring on jigs and bucktails. A large body of bass has also been holding around Block Island, providing plenty of action. The fluke bite is showing signs of improvement, while sea bass fishing continues to get better by the day. Bluefish have also arrived in force around the Point, adding even more excitement to the fishery.

Will from the Montauk Anglers Club reported that striped bass continue to lead the way, with fish to 40 pounds being caught on bucktails and jigs. Fluking remains on the slower side but has shown some improvement over the past week. In offshore news, the season's first yellowfin tuna were brought to the docks from the canyons.

Jill from the November Rain reported another excellent week of striped bass fishing. The Hamilton Gardens crew kicked things off with nonstop action and went home with plenty of meat despite falling just short of a limit. Justin and his family enjoyed their first Montauk trip with plenty of bass and bluefish action, including several slot fish for the table. The Joe Porcu charter returned for their first trip of the 2026 season and boxed a seven-fish limit of slots while releasing numerous overs. Tim Schweitzer and crew also enjoyed a productive outing with a limit of slot bass and nearly two dozen sea bass. The week wrapped up with Riza and friends, who also managed a limit of slot bass while releasing more than a dozen overs. Overall, the bass fishing has been outstanding. Mike from Star Island Yacht Club reported quality striped bass fishing with fish to 40 pounds. Bluefish are mixed in with the bass, while porgies have started to show up around Montauk. Sea bass action around the Point continues to improve as water temperatures rise.

Captain Jim from Tailwrapped Sportfishing reported a phenomenal week of striped bass fishing, with plenty of slot fish mixed in with trophy bass to 48 pounds. The early morning flood tide has produced slightly better than the ebb, but fish have been coming over the rails throughout the tide cycle. Bluefish in the 3- to 7-pound class have settled in around the lighthouse and are providing nonstop action. Captain Mike from Trophy Hunter Montauk Charters reported that striper fishing remains excellent in the rips, especially during the flood tide. Bluefish have been abundant, porgy action remains steady, and large concentrations of sand eels are holding fish in the area. Keeper sea bass are also beginning to show in better numbers. From the Viking Fleet, Capt. Dave reported similar results to recent outings. Plenty of smaller porgies kept anglers busy, although there were enough quality fish mixed in to make things interesting. Down at West Lake Marina, they told me striper fishing remains solid with fish exceeding 40 pounds being caught regularly. Bluefish are mixed in with the bass and sea bass fishing continues to gain momentum. The improving bottom bite should only get better as we move deeper into June.

Captain John of the Shinnecock Star reported the best bay fluke bite of the season on June 13. After locating warmer water, the afternoon bite turned on and anglers found encouraging numbers of fish. Many of the fluke were loaded with grass shrimp, while spearing fished on a plain hook proved highly effective. Bryce from White Water Outfitters in Hampton Bays reported that Shinnecock fluking is still producing mostly short fish. Striped bass remain around the inlet and bridges, while bunker pods outside the inlet have produced fish to 40 pounds. Porgies remain available in the Peconics, and offshore reports include yellowfin tuna from Atlantis Canyon.

Kenny from Tight Lines Tackle in Southampton reported that Montauk striper fishing remains red hot with fish to 40 pounds. Back west, the Sag Harbor ferry area continues to produce striped bass to 40 inches for anglers trolling. The Peconic bite has slowed somewhat, although weakfish and porgies remain available. Fluking in Shinnecock Bay remains on the slower side, while sea bass fishing around Montauk continues to improve.

Phil Kess of the Fishy Business in Orient reports anther exceptional week on the striped bass front with most days seeing boat limits of slot bass with many oversize fish rounding out the bass action each trip. Porgies are filling up the bushel baskets with big fat scup finishing up the days. There are still dates open throughout the season including blackfish openings. Capt. Rich of the Nancy Ann in Orient, reports another great week of striped bass fishing with boat limits of slots the norm each day with many oversize bass being safely released. Some gator blues are mixing in some days. Porgies are filling out the catches with most days seeing good fishing. The Nancy Ann IV still has open dates available for charter from the end of July through August. Concerning the open dates, you are missing some great fishing during those days as Capt. Rich and his son Capt. Rick do a splendid job of putting their clients over humpback sea bass in deep water during that time of the season. I have seen the duo in action and they do a great job. With that said, do yourself and your group a favor and take advantage of the great sea bass fishing during the end of July and into August. Speaking of group, Capt. Capt. Paul Ripperger and Captain Rachel Jannace Johnson of the Tide Hustle in Greenport reports a good week of porgy fishing with a good showing of weakfish to add to the fun. Thursday’s striped bass/porgy combo saw a fast start with stripers with many slot and oversize fish to start the day. Then came the boat traffic which shut the doors on the action. Popular demand suggested the switch to porgies which saw fares enjoy excellent catches of scup to 2 pounds along with several weakfish. Saturday saw the boat chartered and just like Thursday, the day started with a hot bass bite with several bass hitting the box before boat traffic closed the door to the action. A switch to the Peconic Bay porgy grounds produced plenty of humpback jumbos and some fine weakfish catches. For as long as the striped bass fishing remains solid, Thursday’s are dedicated to a striped bass/porgy combo with a 7 a.m. departure. Reservations are a must. The Tide Hustle is sailing from Brick Cove Marina in Greenport every day, weather permitting starting at 7 a.m. and returning back to the dock between 2 and 2:30 p.m. The Tide Hustle is the newest addition of the East End open boat operation that is owned and operated by both Capt. Rachel and her husband Todd Johnson. Open boat trips are limited to 15 anglers with a 100 feet of rail space to roam in. Although walk Ons are welcome when the boat is not filled, a reservation is strongly suggested to guarantee your spot on the rail. Craig from WeGo Bait and Tackle in Southold reports striped bass fishing remains exceptional anywhere from the Plum Gut to the Race. Live bait produces round the clock while bucktails on 3x3 rigs has been best during the day bite. A few big bluefish are also mixing in. Inside the bay porgies are mixed size and plentiful for all to enjoy, with Jessup Neck, Greenport and Southold Bay all producing scup to 2 pounds on worms and clams. Weakfish are hitting high/low rigs baited with strips of fresh squid as well as diamond jigs and red tube teasers. Noyack Bay, Roses Grove and Nassau Point are all producing weakfish to 7 pounds. Bluefish have been spotty with the deep water in front of Jessup Neck producing best at the start of a moving tide. No reports of black sea bass in the Sound as of yet.
